Consuelo Chierici - Biography

Milanese by birth and Neapolitan by heritage, in 1981 she collaborated with Giancarlo Savino on the project to create the first urban painting in Naples on the San Francesco steps entitled “The Fall of the King,” which is also received as a critical response to the politics of cultural management in Naples in those years. The event is widely recorded in the city press.
He participates in a multimedia event created by Antonino Iuorio with the collaboration of numerous artists at Vittorio Lucariello's “Spazio libero” where much of the experimental theater of those years passed.
In 1982 he founded with other artists the cultural association “Materiali in disordine” with which he organized the event “Campania Felix” first regional review of the arts.
Included in the exhibition and catalog are sections of Visual Arts, Photography, Performance and Visual Poetry. Because the event is organized by an association of artists, it is opposed by private galleries that see in this initiative a real interference in the activity and management of cultural information in the city. Many actions to discredit the training event that, as a result of this smear campaign through newspapers and media, determines a great curiosity in the public
(it is estimated that nearly 10,000 people visited the exhibition at Castel dell'Ovo).
in 1984 she was sent by Grazia Terribile to Gravina di Puglia to participate in the event “Intervento Omocromico”; a creative campus in nature of visual arts and video performance, in which she had herself buried inside the earth by making a large broken and then stitched up ceramic from the cast of her body. There she interacted with artists Mainolfi and Ontani in their installations.
In the years between '84 and '86 she participated in a number of group exhibitions conceived and curated by art critic and journalist Ela Caroli, who in the 1980s proposed a selected group of artists with particular attention to women's work, organizing exhibitions in Naples, Positano, Capri, and Pomigliano d'Arco.
In 1985 with Marisa Albanese's studio '85 gallery she exhibited in a group show, and in the same year she participated with the gallery in the Levante International Fair “Expo arte.”
In '86 he founded in Naples with artists G. Savino, D. Izzo, S. Ravo, G. Ceraldi, S.M. Martini and A. Neiwiller, the Virus Group.
With other artists, he participates in the “Studi Aperti” project, an ethical and organizational response to the lack of visibility that invites artists to open the studio and put it at the center of art making, without filters and mediations, between artists and the public. The formula attracted the attention of critics and almost all artists, despite the opposition of gallery owners; it reached its maximum expansion and visibility with the opening of 600 studios and the dissemination of a printed guide created for the occasion by the newspaper “la Repubblica.
In 1986 he exhibited at “Studio Miele” in Nola in a solo show.
In 1987 he moved to New York where he lived the worked twenty years, studying at the New School of Social researches (B.S. in liberal arts and also graduating from the conservatory “Mannes college” in jazz music and audio engineering).
In the “Big Apple,” he has worked professionally in the tourism industry as a guide and promoter of cultural and performance events in clips and festivals.
He has participated in numerous group exhibitions gallery performance spaces : Fun Gallery, New Museum, Sharpe Gallery, the Mama Theater and Gallery, Socrates sculture Park, Nell's.
In the early 1990s he had a solo exhibition at the Knitting Factory, a famous and significant avant-garde music and art space, where he presented a series of works of zinc mesh plates, chromed iron and lights dedicated to the theme of labyrinth dances. In the same period he formed with other artists including Rae Burke, Grady Alexis, a Haitian artist who fatally died, the group in “Entropy” tracing in New York the same ideas as the “Virus Group,” and proposed a series of events in traveling spaces and artists' studios, helping to redefine the way art is also exhibited in New York, where artists represent themselves and open their studios to the public
